Regular wellness checks offer an opportunity to address any changes in your dog or cat's condition.
A veterinary exam is what humans call a doctor’s checkup. A wellness exam provides peace of mind for owners to know their loyal companion is in good health or they’re getting the medical help they need for their health issues. Sometimes it is impossible to look at your pet and confidently say they are in good health, as you can’t see what goes on inside their body. This is why veterinary exams are necessary.
At our hospital the veterinary exams we provide usually begin with a complete lab work up. We test your loyal companion’s urine and blood to see if their levels are normal and to identify any unknown health issues. Our veterinarians also perform a full physical examination checking for lumps, abnormalities and recording your pet’s growth. We also take this opportunity to weigh your pet to determine if they are close to the ideal weight for their breed and age. If your pet is older or has pre-existing conditions we may run other diagnostic tests to locate any new health problems or to monitor the pre-existing ones. From the results, our team may prescribe treatment in the form of medication, supplements, exercise, rehab or possibly surgery.
The general recommendation is each pet should have at least one veterinary exam each year. However, if your cherished pets are in vulnerable stages of health then they may require more checkups. Puppies and kittens need three veterinary exams each year and senior pets need two each year. Frequent veterinary exams give our team the chance to catch any sickness before it is advanced. Your loyal companion ages more than you do within a year and it is very important these changes are monitored closely.
