Microchipping your pet is a form of protection you give them and peace of mind for yourself. Microchips are used to identify your pet if they ever get lost. In a perfect world you would be able to locate the exact location of your pet, and microchips are the closest thing to doing that.

How do microchips work?

Microchips are small computer chips usually implanted between the neck and the shoulder of a pet. Each chip has a serial number that can be read by a scanner. That serial number is connected to a database that is created by the manufacturer. Once the chip is implanted, the owner enters their contact details into the company’s database. If your lost pet is taken to a shelter or veterinary clinic they will be scanned for a microchip. If a microchip is detected then the serial number will be found leading to your contact info.

Why should I consider microchipping my pet?

Microchips are far superior to ID tags. An ID tag can break or become disconnected from your pet at any time. With a microchip there is no need to ever replace them as they don’t operate on batteries and they are beneath the skin so they never get lost. Another advantage to implanting a microchip is that if you move you can always update your contact details in the database.
